Cayman Scoops More Awards
Not only has it been a record setting year for tourism numbers in the Cayman Islands, but also an award winning one. During the first quarter of 2015, Grand Cayman found its name on two “best beach” lists and two “best destination” in the Caribbean.
In April, the popular travel website TripAdvisor ranked Grand Cayman as third in the “10 Best Islands in the Caribbean” in the 2015 Travelers Choice Awards. The famous Seven Mile Beach made number five in the “Top Destinations in the Caribbean” and also number seven for “The 25 Best Beaches in the Caribbean”.
In May, US News & Travel Reports released rankings on the 12 best beaches in the world, and Seven Mile Beach made the list once again as number one. The first place ranking was described on the company’s website: “It’s hard to compete with the coral sands of Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach. Brimming with luxury hotels and casual restaurants, the Cayman Islands leave travellers with little to complain about.”
Minister of Tourism, Moses Kirkconnell, said, “Because the Cayman Islands offers a unique customer service experience, coupled with an attractive infrastructure, we are pleased to see awards of this nature year over year. Our partners in the tourism industry and the exceptional attractions excel at providing Caymankind care and customer service, demonstrating the strength of our dive and water sports as well as land based activity offerings.”
While most of the accolades focus specifically on beaches, other areas of our tourism sector have earned awards such as the coveted TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Awards.
Here are a few recognised in 2015:
- DiveTech
- Grape Tree Café
- Spirit of the West
- Slackem Fishing Charters
- Brasserie
- Southern Cross Club
- Blue Cilantro
- Captain Marvin’s Watersports
- Brac Reef Resort
- Cayman Turtle Farm: Island Wildlife Encounter
The travel website has also announced that in celebration of its fifth year providing Certificate of Excellence, it will recognize recipients that have consistently received positive rating and earned a Certificate of Excellence consecutively for five years. They will be labelled as TripAdvisor Hall of Fame members, an honour amongst all tourism providers. This year, dive resorts Sunset House, Compass Point and Southern Cross Club will be recognised in the Hall of Fame along with other partners such as Captain Marvin’s Watersports and more.
“It speaks volumes to see so many representatives from across the Cayman Islands recognised in these awards,” Director of Tourism, Rosa Harris stated. “The efforts of the Ministry and Department to drive global awareness of the destination are successful in part because of the commitment of our on island partners such as those recognised by TripAdvisor. These awards are earned by the dedication to the customer experience, ensuring that our guests are enveloped in the Caymankind care we have been known for since the beginning of tourism on these islands. We congratulate all our award winning partners and are pleased to work with such a stellar group of individuals who make tourism great in the Cayman Islands.”
